 II.  Reports

  1. Treasurer’s Report –

Carthage Central School funding was deposited in late October. Rutland has not sent in a check for funding this year.  Mary Louise will call the town offices to see what the delay is and if there are any issues that need to be resolved.

  • Director’s Report–

Curbside Deliveries will now count as attendance for the library since they are stepping on our property and using a service of the library

Appointments for visits are slow, but steady.  With more schools going remote we possibly will see a boost in appointments for families.

Discussed possible scenarios for COVID-19 related shutdowns of the school and the area in general.  Most likely we would first go to curbside only, but if the entire area goes on a full lockdown we will have to shut down completely.  Mary Louise and Shawn will be able to work remotely, while the 2 clerks will be advised to take unemployment for the time we are closed.

A new outside book deposit will be delivered on Thursday and installed on Monday.  This will allow us to use our current deposit for its proper use as our trash can storage area.

The Star Wars Readsquared program has given out 14 free books and registered 104 people.  With the possibility of schools going remote we will be pushing this program more thru Facebook.  The board was also advised that this will cause us to ship more books, which will be an added cost to the library.

The Run, Run, Rudolph 5k Virtual Run has already sold 27 medals and 24 shirts.  This has given them a profit of $111.00 so far.  Mary Louise has asked the board members to become more active with this project since it will help cover the costs of the senior box project at Kamargo Apartments.

The senior project has enough towels for this year from past years in storage.  This year fabric totes will be used instead of plastic boxes due to the costs being higher for the boxes considering we need 24 boxes.  All totes will be filled on December 21st @ 9:00am.

The annual Cool Yule event is going to be cancelled this year.  The library is proposing to the village a mini parade where Santa will be in a truck followed by helpers.  They will be going from the school to the library.  There will be no activities at the library following because of a worry of causing a “spreader” event.

Christmas decorations inside the library will be kept to a minimum this year since our attendance will be greatly decreased and with construction we are unsure of what area and contamination may occur once they open the wall for the expansion.

2021 Staff salaries were discussed in preparation for the budget presentation at the December meeting.
