Board of Trustees Meeting – October 24 2023

I.             Administrative 

a.   Attendance: Andrew Lonsbary, Sue Ellen Deion, Lori Ames, George Hawver, Delores Strife, Kelly Coon, Mary Louise Hunt, Shawn Hunt
b.   Called meeting to order at (4:42)pm 
c.   Period for Public Expression – none

II.           Reports 

a.     President’s Report – none

b.     Treasurer’s Report – 

  • money came in from the school district
  • paperwork has been submitted for an audit (checks to make sure we are paying the right taxes and checks the books)
  • Motion to accept by Sue Ellen Deion – seconded by Lorie Ames

c.     Director’s Report – 

  • Statistics
    • Monthly stats are comparable to last September
    • Programming is down a little due to kids going back to school and seniors being sick for their scheduled programs
    • No concerning trends at this time
  • Evans Mills Director
    • There will be a partnership with their library – we will host the programs since we have more room but will work cooperatively with their library.
    • Discussion about sharing the cost of programming 
  • Solar Eclipse
    • Awaiting word from CCSD as to whether we will have an early dismissal or ½ day to help predict how many people will be attending the programming.
    • If tourism is increased due to the event, the town of Leray will pay for the books with tax money – $5.99 per book – the newspaper article has been submitted to prove that tourism will increase and the funding is there.
  • Cool Yule
    • December 9th 
    • How can we direct traffic/manage crowds of people better?
    • Number system vs. line?
    • Put the food in the community room to help steer people that way
  • Heater
    • Something is broken for the front part of the library – it will be fixed.

d.  Friends of the Library (FOL) Report – no report

III.         New Business 

  1. Tax Cap (Vote)
    • What they will allow is not as much as last year
    • Vote to go $2,500 extra over the tax cap

  2. Partnership with Evans Mills Library
    • See director’s report
  3. Encompass Recreation Award Ceremony
    • We are the first library to receive the award
  4. Wage Discussion (Vote)
    • 3% increase vs. 5% increase
    • Vote to increase pay raises by 5%

      3. All in favor of 5% increase.
  5. Snow Removal Contract
    • $300 a month – same contract as last year will be renewed

IV.         Old Business 

  1. Online Auction Updates
    • $3,000 worth of donations are posted on the website
    • Need a way to advertise the auction – Channel 7, NewzJunky, Channel 50 (paid advertisement)
    • Need to re-look at how we organize the auction next year because it is very time consuming to organize
  2. System Wide Construction Grant Updates
    • Requested to replace the 4 computers – NYS is finally looking at the grant
    • Long and slow process
